Mini-Artworks: Red Bluff Farm p2

I was under the weather yesterday, thus no posted update. After going to Lakeside I had a terrible headache (must be the sleepless nights…). But today, here are the two pages I finished!

Since the class picture fits the whole page, I just added Prima Sprites Collection flowers and used the pig tails that was at the back of Charlize’s shirt. The stamp flourish is from Fancy Pants’ Pollen Dust and the journaling stamp from Autumn Leaves.

For the next page, I used Basic Grey’s Two Scoops printed paper and Creating Keepsakes KOTM (April) mini file folder & arrow. Since the embossing was not so clear, I lightly rubbed a colored pencil over it. I remember in grade school, we used to put leaves or coins under the paper and rub crayon or pencil over it and was amazed at the image transfered to the paper! This is more or less the same technique.

Embellished with Prima flower (the white flower is from making memories ribbon/trims). Sewed a red button and used Doodlebug’s “mini just my type” sticker alpha. The butterfly stamp is from Autumn Leaves.

Mini-Artworks: Red Bluff Farm Field Trip

To get scrappin’ I decided to start a weekly project: Mini-Artworks. It has been a challenge for me to scrapbook since our relocation and being a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM), it’s guaranteed that my weekend is booked as “family time”. The thought of making a layout is daunting coz I’m sure I won’t be able to finish it (not really a fan of interruptions) in one setting, so the idea of a mini-album is great since I’ll be able to break it up into “a page a day” project. By the weekend I’ll have a mini-album finished! Now that makes a daunting project manageable. 🙂

I’ve been meaning to make a mini-album on Charlize’s 1st field trip so that’s perfect to start this off. I decided to use Basic Grey’s 6×6 bracket album.

I completed the first page last night. After eight months of not scrapbooking, it was slow at first but once my tools start coming out from their storage and getting ribbons, buttons and embellishments, I had fun playing!

The first decision was always a tough one…. which paper to use?! Looked at the pictures and my stash to see which works with the whole theme. I stumble on a recent purchase of Basic Grey’s Two Scoops and it was just what I wanted. I love the feeling when everything just comes together! 🙂

After cutting the paper to the shape of my album, I printed a couple of photos. Problem: the wireless connection to my printer was not working… not happy. Thought of starting my page tomorrow but nah… fiddled with the printer and laptop and finally got it going using wired connection. Yay me!

I then embossed the lower part of the paper (Cuttlebug + Floral Fantasy). Due to the size the paper I have a little portion without embossing so covered it up with one of the element stickers from Two Scoops collection. Adhered the flowers. I can’t remember the manufacturer but I bought it from Made With Love in Singapore. Added K & Co. rhinestones and Kuretake gem accent stickers for some BLING! Used part of the photo border for the title and the cute butterfly from K & Co. finished the page!

Now that sounds easy and simple. But the whole process is FUN and I love the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day, even if it’s just a page of a project.

Look out for the next page tomorrow. Let’s see where creativity takes us with the second page of this mini-album. Ta-ta for now (TTFN).

Macro Monday

It’s caterpillar season and it was everywhere at the Audubon Zoo when we visited last Saturday. I read about getting to know the macro feature of your camera so took some using digi-macro.

Scrapbooking is not only about your layouts but about the pictures you take. I’m glad that my hobby has given me an opportunity to learn new things and grow as a “life artist”.

Tool-tally Scrappin’ Weekend- Basic Grey Magnetic Precision Mat

This week we’ll feature the Basic Grey Magnetic Precision Mat. Most scrapbookers have either a paper trimmer or a cutting mat but here’s the justification why you should get this mat!

  • Its self healing. So you don’t have to worry about having grooves left after cutting.
  • The magnetic tack holds your layout in place and makes moving embellishments or pictures around easy. And if you’re like me who’s scrap time is always interrupted, you can just hang the mat away from “little hands” and come back later to continue your layout.
  • It’s great with rub-ons! Placing the magnetic tacks on the spaces on the rub-on sheet ensures that you don’t accidentally transfer the other designs to your page.
  • It’s portable so you can bring it along when you go cropping. And it doesn’t take up storage space. In fact it’s always on my scrap table, I don’t even have to store it!

A thing to take note though, don’t use this mat as backing for punching holes coz it’s going to create a hole like what Erin of Creating Keepsakes experienced. Use the mat provided with your hole- punching tool.

This is a versatile tool that you can use for ages, so hope you’ll like it as much as I do mine!

Motion Monday

It’s great to be able to capture your subject in motion. It’s like being SUSPENDED in time. Nothing matters except the MOMENT. I’m quite happy how these photos turned out considering I’m “point and shoot” with a camera. I’ll have fun scrapbooking these photos!

Tool-tally Scrappin’ Weekend: Bo Bunny Flexible Ruler

This tool has been around for sometime and with summer around the corner I’m sure you’ll be scrapping photos of your “fun under the sun” experience. This is the perfect tool to create repetitive curves like waves for your layout. Check out how Erin of Creating Keepsakes did it (Video Gallery/Product Demos). It’s also great that you can easily store this and I’m for any tool that saves me storage space! You can get flexible rulers at the bookstore, craft store, fabric store or hardware shops but I love this coz it’s the cutest among its cousins. What could be cuter than anything pink!
